Obnoxiously long drumroll, pleaseMeet the first instalment in the Tide Email Marketing Series:
Learn how to write strategic, story-driven newsletters with serious main character energy — the kind people can’t wait to open.
How often do you hear that little voice inside your head, bullying reminding you about the task you’ve been actively avoiding?
How often do you hear that little voice inside your head, bullying reminding you about the task you’ve been actively avoiding?
“Is today the day you FINALLY write your newsletter? Your last one was 3 months ago. Not weeks, MONTHS 🙄”
As a small business owner with a million literal & metaphorical tabs open, it’s no wonder the thought of emailing your list sparks an existential crisis.
What do I even write about? My life is boring!
How do I squeeze email marketing into my already jam-packed day?
How can I make my newsletter valuable, unique & conversion-friendly?
How can I sound FUN while still being professional?
And how can I do all that without coming across as annoying, salesly or a low-key narcissist?
Despite a mild case of newsletter paralysis, you’re switched on enough to know the potential of email marketing for your business.
Social media might be shiny. But email? Email marketing typically returns $36 for every $1 spent. That’s a 3600% ROI!
Not too shabby for something you can do anywhere, anytime, in your coffee-stained pyjamas.
Connection is a prerequisite to selling.
So yes, newsletters deserve your attention. And guess what? 2026 is the year you become an inbox icon 😏
Here’s what we’ll cover:
-
Newsletter Strategy
The meat & potatoes of email marketing. You’ll learn the basics of getting set up, planning, brainstorming, and how to stay consistent (AKA not ghosting your list for 3 months at a time.)
-
Finding killer stories for your emails
Learn how to turn mundane ‘life’ moments into entertaining stories — so you never have to say “I don’t know what to write about” ever again.
-
Out of Office Experiences
The in-person thing is also my, errr, thing.
OOO is home to immersive retreats & events, designed to get those big, juicy, strategic ideas pumping so you can make intentional shifts in your business.
I stand by it —
Email is one of the most effective channels to cultivate relationships and sell your offers.
(No perfectly curated house, face full of makeup, or camera-ready confidence required!)
Your subscribers want to hear from you — they willingly signed up to your email list, remember? — and now they’re hanging out in their inboxes all day long, waiting patiently for a glimpse of a rare & endangered species:
A marketing email that doesn’t bore them half to death.
Tinder wishes it had this kind of open rate ;)
Oh heyyyyy, I’m Laura
And I’m about to make writing your newsletter feel so much easier.
As a copywriter & email strategist on a mission to rid the world of boring websites & emails (one ‘kind regards’ at a time), I’ve been sending my weekly-ish newsletter consistently for the past 5 years. And it kind of has a fan club.
Not because of the marketing tips (I mean, those are pretty fire too) — but because of my stories.
I’ve seen firsthand the power of storytelling to entertain and sell, and now I’m giving you my entire newsletter storytelling strategy so you can build stronger connections with your subscribers.
Get it Write is bible-like. It’s easy to read and easy to understand. I love the Tide Tricks at the end of each lesson, and the fact that it’s funny as hell! This handbook is OUTSTANDING, as I knew it would be.
Kate Moore, Wordsmith
Such an easy to use, fun resource. The clickable links are super handy and it’s so convenient having everything in one place. I like the way you encourage people to be braver and bolder with their copy and this tool gives me more confidence to use words that would have previously left me feeling unsure whether they were the RIGHT words to use!
Nicola Wylie, Founder of Lora & Flok
I have been a victim of ‘sneak peak’ too many times (that thought alone sends me to cringe land). I NEED this handbook. The meaning of ‘averse’ is now etched into my brain with “Dad was mostly a risk-averse guy…except when it came to dating foreign women online”. If only English class had been this entertaining! I also love the format, the bite-size lessons are easy for my brain to digest.
Kylie Houston, Interior Designer & Hypnotist

I LOVED the humour. I find it hard to be self-directed when it comes to learning but the humour and unexpected quips kept me focused & engaged. I also really appreciate the visuals. The design is so beautiful, it makes what could have reminded me of a study book captivating & alluring.
Gabrielle Houghton, Makeup Artist & Creator
This is such a handy tool that needs to be in everyone's downloads folder. It's full of valuable info that I LITERALLY need every day in my marketing job, and it’s also entertaining — making grammar easy to learn and far from boring. Are you making grammar cool? I think so.
Lou Burton, Brand & Content Manager at SwipedOn
Absolutely love the colours, layout, information (not too much on a page) and the simplicity of it all. Get it Write is user friendly for all levels of literate humans. The Tide Tricks are also something you can’t find when grammar checking online. Google can be confusing when different dictionaries say slightly different things!
Zoë Van Mil, Ex Teacher, Business Owner & Coach
Know the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist
A caveat to all this grammar chat: I’m a firm believer that some writing rules are meant to be broken.
It’s empowering to understand the fundamentals of punctuation & spelling, but as a copywriter specialising in personality-driven copy, I’m often bending those rules for impact.
I’m not here to tell you to never start a sentence with ‘but’ or ‘and’.
And I’m certainly not here to tell you you’ll be sent to grammar jail if you use a single quotation mark when it should be a double.
I *am* here to tell you that:Language is always evolving (and that’s a beautiful thing) but understanding the rules allows you to deliberately & strategically break them for more oomph
Getting comfortable with different words means you can use them in your copy to make your writing more interesting & creative
Writing becomes easier & more enjoyable when you’re not stressing about looking like a dick for using the wrong ‘their’ in a sentence
A note for the non-locals
Made with love in the Land of the Long White Cloud (Aotearoa, New Zealand), Get it Write is built on the spelling rules of British English — which is something to be aware of if American English is the go-to where you live.
In saying this, many of the words & lessons are universal. So yay!
One last sneak peek
And yes, that’s pEEk — not pEAk. We’ll cover this one and a whole lot more, including:
Get it Write is brilliant, and so dang handy. It answered every sticky grammar situation I could think of, plus a few that I couldn't! The Tide Tricks are also genius and written in a way that will mean they stay in my brain instead of falling back out.
Nikki Jones, Bookkeeper/VA
I have struggled in recent years writing content & thinking is that worded correctly? I often doubt myself — it has been a long time since I have been at school! Get it Write is so clear to follow. I especially loved the capitalisation lessons, plus the simple & relatable examples throughout. I could give this resource to any of my staff, and they could easy follow it.
